Who are our IT Coaches?

Our coaches are community members with IT skills who are willing to share some of their time and knowledge with Charlotte-area nonprofits. Some are currently working in the IT field, while others are retired or have the IT skills from another area of life.

What skills are needed to be an IT Coach?

Our volunteers coach on Microsoft Office skills (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint) with which they are familiar.

How are volunteers matched to nonprofits?

Staff members from nonprofits request coaching and volunteers choose from the list. Volunteers make their choices based on a variety of reasons: the skill requested, location of the nonprofit, or the mission of the nonprofit.

How does Coaching differ from Training?

Coaching takes place one on one at the office of the nonprofit. We ask the nonprofit staff member to have a specific business problem, such as requesting assistance with calendar invites in Outlook or pivot tables in Excel. 

What is the time commitment for volunteers?

We ask our volunteers to commit to one hour per month for 4 months.

What happens if there is a problem?

Volunteers and staff members both participate in an orientation before participating so that expectations are understood. In the very rare occurrence of an issue, volunteers can communicate the matter to Apparo, where it will be addressed.
