Angela H. Woods joined Girl Scouts, Hornets’ Nest Council on January, 15, 2014 as its Chief Executive Officer. She brings over 17 years of combined not-for-profit and for-profit leadership experience to Girl Scouts.
In her role as CEO, Angela provides leadership, strategic direction, and vision for staff and adult volunteers to position Girl Scouts, Hornets’ Nest Council as a premier voice for girls. Angela works to ensure the council’s relevance in communities throughout the eight-county coverage area, promoting Girl Scout visibility and strengthening the public perception of the Girl Scout image through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
Prior to leading Girl Scouts, Hornets’ Nest Council, Angela served as the Chief Executive Officer for Girl Scouts Heart of the South in Memphis Tennessee. During the past 4 years, Angela was responsible for a 59-county coverage area, which served over 17,500 girls and volunteers. Before this appointment, Angela served as the Interim Chief Executive Officer and COO of the United Way of the National Capital Area (UWNCA) in Washington, D.C. During her tenure, she led both internal and external operations for UWNCA, including finance, resource development, marketing and communications, community impact, information technology, and human resources. Additionally, she also worked for United Way of Central Carolinas where she served as the Senior Vice President of Community Building & Administration. Preceding that, she worked at Bank of America in the areas of institutional trusts, retirement planning and investments, and global finance recruiting.
A native of Detroit, Angela grew up in Albany, Georgia and earned her bachelors degree in psychology from Spelman College in Atlanta. She also earned a Masters of Business Administration in finance from Clark Atlanta University and earned a law degree from the University of Georgia. Angela retains an active membership in the State Bar of Georgia.
Currently, she is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Charlotte Chapter of the Links, Inc. In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors for three not-for-profit organizations, Carolinas Care Partnership, P.R.A.Y. (Programs of Religious Activities with Youth), and Apparo. Angela is also a licensed Zumba Fitness © instructor and has her AFAA ( Aerobics & Fitness Association) group exercise certification. She is married to Daemon Savoy Woods and has two step children, Rebecca and Jason.
